Power Rangers Megaforce – A Mega Show for Mega Fans!

Power Rangers Mega Pose

Saban returns this year with the adaptation of TOEI‘s Tensou Sentai Goseiger, in the form of Power Rangers: MegaForce. After officially rebooting the franchise with Power Rangers: Samurai and Super Samurai in 2011 and 2012, respectively, Saban is gearing up for a similar status with Megaforce and thus far it is delivering full on.

Power Rangers Megaforce Power Clip

I may have over done that title. Either way, I’d say it fits. So I recently got time to get caught up in Saban’s latest iteration of Power Rangers and honestly I’m quite pleased. After Power Rangers Samurai and Super Samurai, both of which I enjoyed quite a great deal, I was unsure how the new Megaforce would play out, seeing as Megaforce is also where the Great Legend War arc happens. However in this universe (the Saban Universe) it is called the Mega War.

Every time we get a new Power Rangers, we get a whole new cast filled with antics, this time around we get some pretty interesting characters. In Megaforce we have Andrew Gray as Troy Burrows, the Megaforce Red Ranger, John Mark Loudermilk as Noah Carver, the Megaforce Blue Ranger, Christina Masterson as Emma Goodall, the Megaforce Pink Ranger, Ciara Hanna as Gia Moran, the Megaforce Yellow Ranger, Azim Rizk as Jake Holling, the Megaforce Black Ranger.

Honestly while I cannot comment on their overall character arcs and development as only eleven episodes have aired while I am writing this article, I can say the show, while feels more kid-friendly than Samurai, has quite and interesting approach to character development and building. The actors do quite an impressive job with their respective characters and their characters in-show attributes. A notable event I’d like to mention is the fact that, the rangers out of battle and out of ranger form abilities come into play, while I know there is probably evidence of this outside of Megaforce, I missed a couple seasons here and there but regardless its quite a nice addition to characters as a whole.

I’d also like to point out that Megaforce Black Ranger (Jake) has a crush on the Megaforce Yellow Ranger (Gia) (which I may or may not be shipping hard).

Power Rangers MegaForce Cast

The production value of Megaforce is higher than I expected. Usually Saban (and previously Disney) would use alot of footage from the original Super Sentai, this time around I’ve noticed a lot more original footage is being shot for Power Rangers. The even more interesting thing I found was the fact that, this original footage is in places where you’d expect to have Super Sentai  footage. There are instances where you can plainly tell that its two different footage sets, but its much better than previous incarnations.

Aside from the actual Power Rangers, the show’s allies and antagonists are quite something. I personally do not like Tensou, honestly nobody can replace Alpha, so don’t even try, but Tensou’s pretty cool. Also Gosei who is basically Zordon, although Zordon trained him. So Points to Zordon. I like Gosei though, something about him. I supposed its the way he kinda echo’s Zordon.

Power Ranger MegaForce Villains

Power Rangers Villains: Creepox The show’s antagonists are pretty freaking cool. I mean come on, Admiral Malkor, Creepox and Vrak. Just listen to those names, they should insight fear into you! Apart from that though, I like the villans, they have an impressive production value (like all Toei’s Villans)  and they all are pretty bad-ass when you think about it. I personally like Vrak, he just seems so laid back and chill you know. Their weapons are very impressive (blades, scythes etc.) and this time around they attempt to use more than brute force to destroy the Power Rangers. (I know its been done before, I just like it.)

The Zords used in this version is almost just like the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers version. The dragon is even the same and all the particular colours all line up just like they did before, for the most part. However, I like the fact that the Zords can also be used as part of the Rangers weapon, I thought I didn’t like it, but as it turns out, I do in fact like it. The show also uses similar 3D CG versions of combining and calling for the Zords.

Despite what you may think of Power Rangers: Megaforce, its quite a good show, even though its made for children, I can guarantee any fan can enjoy the show. With the rest of season currently on its way, it looks promising, both on the action side, the character development arcs and much more. I can’t wait for it to reach the Mega War.

Orphan Black – BBC America Has Struck Gold!

Orphan Black Screencap #4

For those of you who are following me on Twitter, well you wouldn’t have seen anything, because I didn’t actually tweet about it, but never the less. I’m sure by now, a lot of you must have heard about Orphan Black, one of the newest shows to hit airwaves via BBC America. Typically I don’t watch BBC America shows, I watch a lot of BBC shows, (Doctor Who), however I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard about this show. To tell you the truth, I didn’t expect much. Boy was I wrong.

Orphan Black is a Canadian science fiction television series that stars Tatiana Maslany as several identical women who are revealed to be clones. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of her clone, Elizabeth Childs, after the latter commits suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning and its impact on issues of personal identity.

Orphan Black - Sarah Poster

Orphan Black follows Sarah Manning, who upon returning to the city, discovers her identical clone, Elizabeth Beth Childs, as she commits suicide. She assumes Beth’s identity while she fakes her own death. However all is not peachy, as upon her assumption of Beth’s life, she discovers that she is not alone. There are many other clones across the world who are identical to her. The story progresses as we encounter more and more version of her, most notably Allison Hendrix (A soccer mom) and Cosima Niehaus (a biologist), in an attempt to discover the meaning behind her existence. However, even upon discovering their creators, the clones are still unsure of who to trust, as so many lies have been woven together that they no longer truly know what’s real. With their lives all falling apart and the continuous lies spat out by those they trust, the clones are still up in arms about what to do and who to trust.

Orphan Black - Alison Poster

Basically that’s the story, I left out a lot of other stuff that upon watching will clear up any questions that you may have. The show is by far one of the best shows I’ve ever seen to date. From the writing to the directing to the acting and the production crew, everything is pretty much top notch. I know many will find flaws, but after seeing what this entire cast and crew is capable of, I have no worries.

I’ll start off with the acting. Tatiana Maslay who plays Sarah Manning and all of her clones. Yeah you heard me, she plays all of her clones. There are no extras, other than stunt doubles, she plays ALL of her versions and she does so quite convincingly. Now I don’t mean just some carbon copy clones. Each one of the clones, has their own ticks, tricks and behavior (body language) as well as their accents, hair and makeup. I can tell it was quite a challenge for Tatiana Maslay, but she was outstanding. I couldn’t even imagine another actress doing what she does in this show. Honestly I don’t know how much more I can complement her, because she was really outstanding, and if you let me I’d continue to talk about her acting indefinitely.

Orphan Black Screencap #1

Another portion I must commend her on is when she is pretending to be her clones. If she is currently playing, say for example, Sarah and she has to pretend to be Allison, she is able to. However, she will not fully act as though she is Allison. In these scenes you can plainly tell who is who, and who is pretending to be who in the show. I know its quite mind boggling, but its true and its pretty bad ass.

Orphan Black Screencap #8

The rest of the cast is quite incredible as well, though she is pretty much the wickedest and coolest. They each compliment each others acting capability  and the interaction between them are quite impressive. You can feel the emotions that run thin throughout Sarah’s interaction with Mrs. S, Felix and Art. In addition the way each character gets into the roles is quite astounding, I’ll tell you this, it was amazing acting. Every character has their own story and they all pretty much truly become their roles.

The writers, directors and production team needs massive props for their work as well. I mean, when Sarah was fighting her clones it felt like two people fighting, the angles were right and you couldn’t tell if she actually cloned herself to do the show. It was that spectacular. The writers, they need some awards as well, well everybody needs awards in this show, because I couldn’t predict anything really in this show and I can usually predict a lot of shows.

This show blew a lot of the other shows out of the water and with good reason, it isn’t everyday that you manage to put together such brilliance, so brilliantly. The show constantly has you guessing, questioning the actions they take and questioning who to trust. The show really plays on your emotion and kills it truly.

Orphan Black Screencap #2

All in all, this is an amazing show, a really original show, with brilliant acting, excellent production, amazing directors and writers. All around this show delivers. Now all I can say to you, is to check it out! I Honestly can’t express how much of an amazing show this is. Seriously, check it out.

Power Rangers Samurai & Power Rangers Super Samurai – Go Go Power Rangers!

Power Rangers Samurai Wallpaper

Did I get your attention?  I hope so. As long as your a child of the 90’s then you know about Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, regardless if you liked or it not, this sure was the best thing on the Kids block anywhere, for years. Even long after the show ended, and was subsequently rebooted thanks to the original from Japan, the show continued to impress. Now the show finally returns, in addition to Saban regaining the franchise, the show is better than ever. (almost. Nothing beats the original)

Power Rangers is a long-running American entertainment and merchandising franchise built around a live action children’s television series featuring teams of costumed heroes. Produced first by Saban Entertainment, later by BVS Entertainment, and currently by SCG Power Rangers LLC, the series took its initial premise and much of its footage from the Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai franchise. Its first entry, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, debuted on August 28, 1993, and helped launch the Fox Kids programming block of the 1990s, during which it catapulted into popular culture along with a line of action figures and other toys by Bandai.

Creator Haim Saban regained ownership of the franchise in 2010 after seven years under The Walt Disney Company.

Power Rangers Samurai Rangers 3I want to start off by saying, Thank you Haim Saban for regaining the ownership of Power Rangers. I have watched almost all of the Power Rangers, and honestly, it show started to fall dramatically as the years under Walt Disney passed (no disrespect to Walt Disney, they just couldn’t do it like Saban could.) As I watched all of the Power Rangers it began to stray away from the Power Rangers that I once grew up with, the show I once woke up at 8 in the morning to see. That I watch still to this day. Honestly, it no longer felt like Power Rangers, I honestly couldn’t bear or understand it. It had lost a lot of the key features that made the show great, in my opinion. I know it sounds harsh, but it just didn’t feel like Power Rangers.

Power Rangers Samurai is the nineteenth season of the American children’s television series Power Rangers. With Saban Brands buying back the franchise, the show is produced by SCG Power Rangers and began airing on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons on February 7, 2011. As with all Power Rangers programs, Power Rangers Samurai is based on one of the entries of the Super Sentai Series; in the case of Samurai, the source series is Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. Saban Brands have said the show will have a “brighter tone and gets an infusion of fun and comedy that wasn’t present in present in seasons 16 and 17.”
Samurai is split into two 20-episode seasons; the second set of 20 episodes began on February 18, 2012 and is called Power Rangers Super Samurai, which is being called a new season.

Power Rangers Samurai: TV Screen Shot - Bulk And Spike 2Since the Start of the Power Rangers Samurai, the show has recaputured me, I feel as though I am watching the original Power Rangers, the comic relief of Paul Schrier who plays Farkas “Bulk” Bulkmeier, and Spike Skullovitch (played by Felix Ryan), the son of his best friend Eugene “Skull” Skullovitch which was played by Jason Narvy, is a throw back to the olden days of Bulk And Skull, they are brilliant comedic relief which was missed from the past seasons, is very welcomed.

Power Rangers Samurai: TV Screen Shot - All RangersThe entire feel of the show, the camera work, the lighting all of the production elements, make the show seem as though you are following straight right from the older series, the ones from the original Saban Entertainment. The actual production of the show amazes me, this is the first Power Rangers in the whole franchise (english) to be shot and distributed in High Definition. Even the little quirks of the post production, such as the stuttering and the scene transitions are still reminiscent of the past. Or it could be my nostalgia, but you’ll have it too, trust me.

Even that horrible voice acting is still there, well the slightly off speech thing that all of the characters have while in costume (you know because most of it is actually the scenes from the original Super Sentai show.). You know when they speak and you can’t tell if its that what their saying? Like with the monsters? Still there, and I am loving it.

Power Rangers Samurai: TV Screen Shot - Master Xandred

My only real complaint is that in the past, the zoids trasformation was in Full Reality. As in they built the suits and the toys and then recorded the zoids transforming in Real LIFE! However in the new one, they only show piece of the Full Reality transformation while everything else is done in CG animation. But all of the fights are done in Full Reality with real persons, and it really gives the show a sense of reality, well more like “Yes I know its fake but it looks awesome and real Fake.”

One of the most favorite things about the Power Rangers Franchise is that it teaches children so much more values, like its okay to be different, and everyone has a part to play, and it promotes teamwork etc. Those little life lessons are all here now.  Just like how the older series subtly (sometimes not so subtly) taught kids these nice morals and values, this new series do the exact same thing, except AWESOME! People think that all this show promotes is violence, but you need to pay and attention and then you get some serious life lessons. Take a peek and you’ll see.

Now the music, the opening theme was redone from the original, and it absolutely amazing. I have to give that theme song a million thumbs up. I absolutely love it. Its like a more metal version of the original, and while the subtle sounds have been extended with additional notes, it just makes the theme song so much more epic. In addition to that, a fan did a full version of the song and the solo blew me away, you should check it out. I got it, its right below.

Honestly, the new Power Rangers Samurai and Super Samurai is just like a upgrade on an old favorite, and if your a new Power Rangers fan, then you can truly feel what Habim Saban wanted you to feel, because this is how he does Power Rangers. And if your an old time Power Rangers fan like myself, you  will find yourself sitting at the tv, buying it on iTunes, singing along in the middle of street and reading a review :).

I have no real Complaints about the show and I recommend Nickelodeon holds on the franchise as long as it can, because Saban will return it to its former glory!

Sherlock – BBC Has Really Done It This Time – One Of The Most Awesome Shows Ever

Sherlock (TV series)

Don’t get me wrong, there are many awesome shows ever in my book, but this adpatation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s Sherlock Holmes detective story has got to be by far one of the best in all existence. I started watching Sherlock last year after
the writer, Steven Moffat, of Doctor Who announced it in 2010. I didn’t think the show would’ve been any good – I lie – Its Steven-Freakin’-Moffat. This dude can’t write the most epic things I have ever seen! He is one of the writers behind the 2005-Series Doctor who. So you know this is good.

Each Episode of Sherlock is 90-mintues long, and only 3 is produced on a yearly basis. Its basically a movie for TV, but with better everything.

Sherlock: A Study In PinkThe Show began in July 2011 with the airing of the first 3 episodes, which was in fact the first season. The Second Season began on January 1st, 2012. It was created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson.

This Series has got to be one of the best psychology awesome-ness I’ve ever seen, I know I sound rather biased but it really is. Sherlock’s power of observation is to die for. That kind of brillance, I don’t think could really exist on this planet, although I wish I could do even half of the stuff he can do.

Sherlock Holmes StandingThe second season picked up immediately were the season one left off, and with Sherlock now being saved, and the random nonsense that followed, seemed to be so out of wack, as if  it wasn’t connected, but by the end of the episode everything in the episode tied in so beautifully that it made you shit in your pants. It was that freakin’ awesome.

I can honestly say I didn’t expect that when I started watching this last year. The shear writing power of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and Steve Thompson, can’t remember right now, is by far one of the best I’ve seen from British television, I could be wrong, as I haven’t lived long enough to know all – yet. Even the direction of the show is brilliant, and the production is amazing, hell even the wardrobe is wicked epic. Sherlock has got the best epic overcoat ever.

Honestly I have never read the entire of Sherlock Holmes novel, but the little I read, I could plainly see it in this show, I know its not a real recommendation, but its more than I’ve given to most books – Books….What are they? – Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss really did their research and they did their work when selecting both Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. The both play the roles plainly amazing.

Steven Moffat at Comic Con 2008

The show also include on screen messages that the characters are reading and noticing, it is quite and excellent feature, that makes you feel apart of the show. The displayed messages also show you the things Sherlock is watching so it helps you to see and understand what Sherlock is seeing and identifying.

Honestly I’ve never seen a better plot each and every time. Really, These guys need awards, they actually have a few. But in all seriousness it is quite an …. EPIC Awesome super crazy awesome show.

Sherlock Holmes is a show, you MUST see. No ifs, ands or buts. You MUST see this. GO NOW. And Keep a watch out January 8th and 15th of 2012 for the remainder of the season, I know I will.
