Pokemon X and Y Screen Shot 1

Pokemon has always been a game that millions flock to at any time of the year, whether you are a hardcore fan or a newbie who just discovered the world of Pokemon, its always a big deal when the new game arrives. A new region, new features, new Pokemon, new evolution, new items and basically new everything. Well usually.

Nintendo has always made it clear, that they won’t be changing the winning formula of Pokemon. However when the trailer for X and Y was made public, the world of Pokemon went bat-shit crazy. Myself Included.

Pokemon X and Y promises much, it promises a world completely bathe in 3D visuals, making the game feel like a 3D RPG adventure game. The battle scenes have also been redone in complete 3D complete with 3D backgrounds for the backdrop. As noted before the game brings the camera down, so you can leave the top-down type adventure out the window!

The game makes alot of bold promises. Only time will tell, time being October 2013, if this game will live up to the Fans expectation.

The Starters

Chespin is the grass type version for this generation.  Fennekin is the fire type and Froakie is the water type. The trailer also hints that it would be dual types.

Pokemon Conquest

Pokemon Conquest – A Vast New Setting, A Vast New Game Play

Pokemon Conquest LogoSo, where’s all the Pokemon Fans?! Playing Pokemon Conquest, that’s where. Pokemon Conquest is the new game for the Pokemon franchise, and it isn’t like the predecessors of Pokemon. It is a well known fact that Pokemon usually, makes appearances in other games, and over the years these spin-offs have become more expansive and complex. From being able to connect to the main line of games to just being a stand-alone bunch of hours of fun.

Pokémon Conquest, known in Japan as Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition (ポケモン+ノブナガの野望 Pokemon Purasu Nobunaga no Yabō) is a role-playing strategy video game developed by Tecmo Koei and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. The game is a crossover between the Pokémon and Nobunaga’s Ambition video game series.

Pokemon Conquest Gameplay Screenshot 6As you can both see and read, this Pokemon game is a cross-over game developed by Tecmo Koei (Dead Or Alive, Ninja Gadien and Nobunaga’s Amibition) and of course published by the rights holder of Pokemon, Nintendo.

First all, I must praise this game for holding my interest. Although I am a big turn-based strategy fan, as of lately those that were released didn’t hold my interest as well as I thought it would’ve. However, Pokemon Conquest, has proven to be the rain, in a dessert. The gameplay is very similar to most turn based games, just like Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Tactics. In fact, the game has a very minor learning curve. The game can literally be picked up by anyone, and they begin to master the game easily. Honestly, I was very tired when I started playing this game, so the fact that I could just played it like that was very appealing.

Pokemon Conquest Ingame Screenshot 2Now the game mechanics, like I said before is very similar to most Turn-based video games. However, each character has only one Pokemon, and their special abilities are activated only when certain conditions are met. This is automatic and the game will alert you to it. Now comes the strategy part, each Warlord (that’s the main characters you will be facing) has a particular effect that they can cast on their Pokemon, and its use is left entirely up to you. Now in order for you to ‘capture’ more Pokemon, you first need earn the respect of another Warlord, this is done by defeating him under certain conditions.

Also there are different types of matches so, you won’t always be beating the daylights out of your opponents. Instead you will also be in the midst of other matches like the capture the flag matches, and other matches that will be introduced later in the game.

Pokemon Conquest Ingame Screenshot 1The game’s sound is very reminisce of old Japan, well considering the game is set in the fictional world of Ransei which is kinda like the Meiji-era Japan. (Don’t quote me, I may have gotten this wrong. Most Likely.) The sound in the game is very upbeat and it does accent the game play, sometimes these games kinda just have a dumb down version of high quality music, but this doesn’t sound like it at all. Instead it sounds crisp and clean and it makes it as part of the game. It brings some good old life to the game.

The game is 2D for most menus etc. However the actual matches are played in the third person overhead, 3D titles. The pokemon themselves are represented in 3D, and the environment has both 3D elements and pseudo-3D elements. All in all, the graphics are pretty easy on the eyes and doesn’t take away from the gameplay.

I would highly recommend this game for anyone. Whether or not, if you have hours to waste or just a 20 minutes. The game is fun and takes a good stress relief off. If you are a hardcore pokemon fan (like myself) buy it, Its worth it. If you aren’t, you could probably borrow it from a friend, and see if you like it, no commitments.

Trine 2 – Incredible And Imaginative, A Fest For The Eyes And The Mind

Trine 2 TrailerSo I got bored a little while back and I decided to browse GameSpot.com for some games to play, when I came across Trine 2. I had never heard about this game, ever. And hence I have never even played the first one. However, this is one of the few games that no matter how frustrated I get, it really seems to pick me up. Trine 2 is brilliant, a true visual fest for the eyes.

Trine 2 is a side-scrolling action platform and puzzle video game developed by Frozenbyte. It is the sequel to Trine and was released on Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on December 7, 2011 and for Linux on March 31, 2012. Trine 2 allows three players to play the iconic roles of a wizard, a thief, and a knight in a simultaneous cooperative mode. A Director’s Cut edition was confirmed during Nintendo’s conference at E3 2012, and will be available via Wii U’s eShop.

Trine 2 - In-game Screenshot 2Trine 2 is a 3D side scrolling game, where the player can play the game using 3 of the characters featured in Trine 2, simultaneously. This feature of the game is quite unique. Since I have never played the first trine, I don’t know if it was the same for the first game, (although I would imagine it to be.) The game allows you to switch between the players at any time using the number keys, 1,2 and 3. So you can be fighting and then switch between characters. The characters available are a mage, a thief and a warrior. Each with their own personalities which add to game with their witty comments throughout the game. Each character has their own skill set which can be expanded for a price, well XP. However, because you control all three characters at the same time, when It is time to expand the skill set, you have to decide whose skill set will be expanded as you can only expand one character’s skill set at a time. The game is a real puzzle type game where you must use the character’s individual skills to solve puzzles and continue the game progress. The boss fights are quite interesting as well. Instead of a health bar, you see none.

Trine 2 Linux The game’s environment are  responsible for defeating the bosses. Although you have to figure out what in the environment does anything. It’s quite astounding however. The XP points are awarded as glass flasks, like potion flasks, that you can collect, every 50 you get adds one skill point to you, that you can spend on your characters, to improve weapons and skills.

Trine 2 - In-game ScreenshotThe animation in Trine 2, is a suburb. The game’s engine is really working, even the physics is spot on. Well as spot on as a fantasy world can get. But the environment combined with the physics gives the game a ‘true’ feel. The 3D is fluid everywhere, the characters, environment, even the water, which is never an easy thing to emulate. The animation is truly a fest, your eyes will thank you. In addition the fluidity of the animation never stutters or misses a beat, so the game looks absolute throughout. Everything is built-in 3D and rendered in 3D. Allowing the characters and environment to blend in with each other.

Trine 2 ExtremeAnother awesome thing about this game, is the voice acting. The voicing is quite well done, and I have no real complaints when it comes to it. The character’s voicing feel as though that is their voice. Well done indeed. The music found in the game is truly astounding. I believe that this should have a sound track album, because I would buy it. The music once again made the world come alive even more. I think this game is really taking a game in the right direction.

The game itself, is really a great package. I think you would have a good time with this game although at some points it gets frustrating, it wins you back once you figure it out. I highly recommend you picking up this game.
